Romantic Wedding at Suites Alba Resort, Algarve, Portugal

WOW, What A Wedding!

On 24th June I headed to the Algarve, Portugal to photograph the marriage of Ross and Sarah at Suites Alba Resort, Lagoa, Algarve. http://www.suitesalbaresort.com/suites-alba-resort

Ross and Sarah were married at this luxurious resort with close friends and family.  Set on a dramatic cliffside with a beautiful beach at the bottom, there were ample opportunities for photographs of the couple, their daughter Darcy, the groomsmen, bridesmaids and guests.

Being my first destination wedding I was full of excitement. I packed my Canon 6D Full Frame DSLR with a 24-70mm which can also handle macro, Canon 450D with a 50mm lens for close up shots with a shallow depth of field, Canon Speedlite 430 EX II, loads of rechargeable batteries and a high factor sunscreen.

The colour theme for the wedding was blue, cream, lilac and coral. Sarah wore a beautiful, delicate Karen Willis Holmes dress https://www.karenwillisholmes.com. All hair and make-up for the Bride and Bridesmaids were done on site in the honeymoon suite. Rather than take the usual photos of the hair and make-up being done, I took the girls made-up, outside in their robes using the backdrop of the resort which was landscaped with tropical plants, for some natural photos.

I wanted to use the beautiful surroundings as much as possible and as such the golf buggy proved to be a fun prop and the precarious walk through rough terrain, where you could stand out on the cliff above the ocean made for some awesome photographs, especially with the speedboats passing through the caves.

The outside wedding ceremony started at 3pm and the party went through the night until 2am. There were also three videographers and a drone. It was great to work with other photographers and to talk through ideas for the day and learn how they were going to use the light and sunset for their own shots.

Beautiful surroundings, lots of laughs, fabulous people, fantastic food all made for an unforgettable day.

Here are a few photos from the day.
